Kitchen Renovation Plumbing: A Milton Homeowner's Planning Guide

A kitchen reno is the perfect time to upgrade old plumbing. Here's what to plan for before the cabinets come out.

Decisions to make before demo day

Where will the sink go? Are you adding a pot filler? An island sink with separate drain? A second prep sink? A water line to the fridge? An instant-hot-water tap? A reverse-osmosis system under the sink? Every one of these requires rough-in plumbing decisions before the new cabinets arrive.

Why island sinks are tricky

A drain in an island can't tie into the wall the way a perimeter sink does. It needs an air-admittance valve or a properly vented loop — getting this wrong causes slow drains and gurgling for the life of the kitchen.

Upgrade the supply lines while walls are open

If your home has galvanised steel or older copper, the kitchen reno is the cheapest time you'll ever have to upgrade those lines to PEX. The drywall is already coming off. Don't waste the opportunity.

Permits and inspections

Any change to the plumbing layout — moving the sink, adding a fixture, relocating drains — requires a Town of Milton plumbing permit and inspection. We pull the permit and coordinate inspection so your reno passes without delay.

FAQ

Do I need a permit to replace a sink in the same location?

Like-for-like replacement at the same location typically does not require a permit. Moving the sink does.

When in the reno timeline do you come in?

Twice — for rough-in after demo and before drywall, and for finals after cabinets and counter are installed.
