My Kitchen Sink Is Leaking — Where to Look First
Kitchen sink leaks happen in five common places. Knowing which one saves time and water damage.
The five places to check
Supply line connections at the shut-off valve and faucet inlet, the faucet base on top of the sink, the basket strainer under the sink basin, the P-trap connections, and the dishwasher drain hose connection.
How to find which one
Dry everything thoroughly with paper towels. Run water through each section in turn, watching with a flashlight. The first wet spot tells you the source.
FAQ
Can I fix it myself?
Supply-line and P-trap connections are usually DIY. Basket strainers and faucet base leaks usually need a plumber.
